Job Title: Firmware Engineer Location: Cardiff (Hybrid – 2 remote days per week) Salary: £50,000-£55,000 Bonus Key Responsibilities Design and implement embedded firmware primarily using C Develop and integrate cryptographic solutions. Produce and maintain clear and accurate design documentation. Hands-on debugging and troubleshooting of embedded systems. Collaborate in a team environment and work independently when needed. Deliver design-related tasks. Required Knowledge & Experience Proven ability to verify and implement software requirements. Skilled in interpreting stakeholder/user requirements to create or maintain designs. Strong problem-solving abilities in addressing complex technical issues. Proficient in low-level programming languages (C) and scripting. Experience with TDD (Test-Driven Development) and unit testing. Familiarity with CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment) practices. Experience using version control systems (e.g., Git). Strong grasp of embedded software development lifecycles and tools including debuggers, compilers, and editors Education & Experience Degree in Engineering or equivalent, or significant relevant experience. Minimum of 4 years’ experience in embedded systems or a related industry. Desirable Skills & Experience C# OR C++ Experience with I2C and SPI communication protocols. Understanding of USB low-level protocols. Experience in cryptographic code development. Familiarity with Jenkins automation. Use of NUnit or similar testing frameworks. Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python). Use of CMock for unit testing. Applied experience in implementing cryptographic solutions.
