Network Engineer

Client: Oracle Location: Seattle, WA Duration: 12 months Network Reliability Engineer (NRE) As a Network Reliability Engineer (NRE), the primary focus is on applying an engineering-driven approach to enhance and automate the reliability of network infrastructure in alignment with the organization’s service-level objectives (SLOs), service-level agreements (SLAs), and broader operational goals. This role requires a blend of deep networking expertise, systems engineering, and software development to ensure a highly available and scalable network environment. Key Responsibilities: Implement and Enhance Network Change Procedures: Contribute to and improve existing procedures and tools to safely develop, validate, and execute network changes. Ensure all changes follow best practices to minimize risk and maintain network reliability. Automate Failure Response: Design and develop tools and solutions that enable support teams to effectively respond to network failure conditions. Drive automation efforts to reduce mean time to recovery (MTTR) and improve operational efficiency. Collaboration and Incident Resolution: Work closely with network vendor technical account managers and internal quality assurance teams to diagnose and resolve bugs. Assist in the evaluation and qualification of new firmware and operating systems. Firmware and Configuration Management: Manage and perform scheduled firmware upgrades and configuration refreshes across network devices and platforms. Required Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of core networking protocols and services, including but not limited to: MPLS, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, TCP, IPv4, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, VxLAN, and EVPN In-depth experience with networking standards such as: TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and SSL Proven experience with network monitoring, alerting, and telemetry solutions to ensure proactive issue detection and visibility. Automation and Development Skills: Extensive experience with scripting or automation in a data center or service provider environment. Proficiency in Python preferred, though expertise in any modern scripting or compiled language is acceptable. Ability to develop tools and frameworks that improve reliability, observability, and operational workflows. Professional Experience: Demonstrated experience working in large-scale ISP or cloud provider environments. Background in network operations with a strong emphasis on reliability, scalability, and automation. Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, managing and mitigating complex network incidents and implementing robust long-term solutions.
