Position: Lead Developer / Software Architect (Hands-On) Location: Mayfair, London (Hybrid – 3 to 4 days in-office per week) Type: Permanent, Full-Time Company Overview: A well-established, high-performing global macro hedge fund managing several billion in AUM is seeking a hands-on Lead Developer / Software Architect to drive forward a major technology uplift. The firm is known for its collegial culture, stability, and academic excellence. With a systematic trading strategy focused on futures and FX (and plans to expand into equities), the firm is making a significant investment in its technology platform. Role Overview: This is a critical technical hire for the business. The successful candidate will help shape the next phase of the firm's growth by designing and delivering robust, modern, and scalable infrastructure to support new systematic trading strategies. You will be the most senior technical member in a small team of ~5 engineers, with the remit to lead development efforts hands-on while helping to shape architectural standards and future hires. The environment is entrepreneurial, and you’ll work closely with founding partners who bring decades of experience from some of the most respected names in finance. Key Responsibilities: Lead hands-on software development across Python and C#/.NET Architect scalable systems to support backtesting, research, and live systematic trading Work closely with quant researchers, partners, and junior developers Build infrastructure to support daily-to-weekly trading frequencies, with ambitions to expand into shorter-term and multi-strategy Mentor junior developers and help set high coding and design standards Collaborate across teams to align tech priorities with trading and research needs Tech Stack: Languages: Python, C#/.NET Cloud: Microsoft Azure Ideal Candidate Profile: Strong hands-on coding ability in both Python and C# Prior experience in a systematic trading environment Experience designing and delivering systems for backtesting, signal generation, or trade execution Comfortable working in a lean environment and contributing to both strategic planning and tactical delivery Strong communication and interpersonal skills Academic excellence (e.g. STEM degree, advanced qualifications) Cultural Fit: Pragmatic, hands-on, and low-ego Motivated by building meaningful, long-lasting systems and teams Interested in being part of a long-term growth story, not a short-term gig
