Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) DAMchic Contributing Directors for the office, orange Media Network ( OMN ) at Oregon State University ( OSU ).

The DAMchic Contributing Director is responsible for pitching content ideas, directing photoshoots, and writing stories for the print issues, website and social media platforms of DAMchic Magazine.

The DAMchic Contributing Director employment dates:

The 2025-26 academic year

Pay Rate:

  • Full Start: $72 per story-photo spread
  • $36 for spread plus 200-word “artist statement”
Position Duties

Responsibilities

  • Pitches, accepts, develops and writes stories have news value for the OSU community
  • Conducts research and necessary interviews to produce full stories with at least three relevant sources and a minimum length of 400 words
  • Directs photoshoots that accompany stories, including leading and organizing photoshoots, effectively coordinating with models, photographers, makeup artists and clothing stores
  • Remains objective and provides fair and accurate coverage
  • Participates in readouts with editors to make any necessary revisions in style or content
  • Suggests photo and/or video coverage to enhance story presentation online
  • Shares stories on social media to reach audience
  • Attends all staff meetings as required by the editor-in-chief
  • Grow audience engagement
  • Other duties as assigned by the editor
  • Respond to emails, messages, team chats and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN
  • Ensure you are using, checking and responding to project management platform (Basecamp, Discord, etc.)
  • Proactively communicates with editor(s) about work status
  • Notify adviser immediately should any ethical, legal, personnel or controversial problems occur
  • Ensure designs and content are centered on equitable representation and inclusion, with attention to impact on historically excluded communities and constituencies
  • Follow all OMN policies and procedures
  • Act in a professional manner at all times
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS ), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

  • Willing to learn Associated Press Style and work within the SPJ Code of Ethics
  • Willing to work flexible hours as needed to complete assignments
  • Able to meet deadlines
  • Is a strong writer and communicator and comfortable with directing models and photographers and interacting with sources
  • Is organized and reliable
  • Is comfortable giving and receiving feedback
  • Able to remain professional and calm when working with difficult individuals and situations
  • Must complete all elements on On-Boarding Curriculum
