About the Role:
Our Disney Android team seeks an experienced Principal Software Engineer to build apps enjoyed by millions worldwide. You will develop scalable, elegant solutions for Disney+ and Star+ across devices including phones, tablets, and TVs. Collaboration and communication are key, along with maintaining high code quality with modern libraries, unit tests, and a Kotlin codebase. Our goal is to create the best Live and VOD applications globally.
Responsibilities:
Lead design, architecture, implementation, and deployment of complex systems.
Manage critical components such as release processes, remote configuration, and live production issues.
Monitor overall project health and team dynamics.
Foster leadership and process improvements with a positive attitude.
Support career growth and contribute to the long-term success of the team and company.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
10+ years experience shipping Android applications.
Proficiency with Reactive Programming and Dependency Injection.
Knowledge of architectural patterns like MVI/MVVM.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Strong coding, testing, and documentation skills.
Experience resolving large-scale production issues.
Proven track record of project leadership from start to finish.
Preferred Qualifications:
Coaching experience within a team.
Experience refactoring large codebases.
Familiarity with Android TV / Fire TV development.
Experience with streaming video, codecs, DRM.
Knowledge of modularized codebase maintenance.
Experience with performance tools like Android Profiler.
Skills in Kotlin, Java, Android SDK, Dependency Injection, Gradle, Databases, Reactive paradigms, and coroutines.
The salary range in Seattle, WA is $193,100 - $258,900; in San Francisco, CA it is $201,900 - $270,700. Compensation includes potential bonuses and benefits, depending on experience and location.
