The Role

Great Gray is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Science and AI team. The Senior Data Engineer will be vital in building and maintaining the data infrastructure supporting our Analytics Hub platform. Responsibilities include designing, constructing, and optimizing data pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and delivering critical financial and operational data to facilitate business reporting and analytics across the organization.

Location

This position is based in our Boston, MA office. We support a hybrid work model with 4 days onsite and 1 day remote.

Responsibilities

  1. Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Databricks, Delta Lake, and other modern technologies.
  2. Develop robust ETL processes for data ingestion from custodians, financial systems, and operational applications.
  3. Implement medallion architecture (bronze, silver, gold) for data processing and storage.
  4. Build and optimize data models for the data warehouse (MS SQL Server) to support analytics and reporting.
  5. Create automated data quality checks and monitoring systems to ensure data integrity.
  6. Develop and maintain API layers for system integrations.
  7. Implement Master Data Management (MDM) solutions for key entities.
  8. Build data services for document management, client/advisor portals, and other integrations.
  9. Collaborate with stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical solutions.
  10. Work with analytics teams to optimize data structures for visualization tools like Power BI.
  11. Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  2. 5+ years in data engineering with a proven track record.
  3. Strong SQL and data modeling skills.
  4. Experience with Databricks, Azure Data Factory, or similar tools.
  5. Proficiency in Python, PySpark, Scala, or similar languages.
  6. Experience with data warehouses and lakes.
  7. Knowledge of dimensional modeling and data warehouse design.
  8. Experience with data quality frameworks.
  9. Familiarity with APIs and integration patterns.
  10. Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud platform.
  11. Understanding of financial or investment data structures (preferred).
  12. Knowledge of Master Data Management concepts.
  13. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
  14. Comfortable navigating ambiguity and entrepreneurial mindset.
  15. Exhibits results-driven, innovative, resilient, and decisive attributes.
