How will you make an impact?

This role will function as an Electrical System Architect for defining technical strategy on Jabil’s Cloud and Networking Equipment Architecture team. We are looking for a motivated senior Electrical/System Architect knowledgeable with Ethernet Switch architectures. As a System Architect, you will engage with internal and external customers, recommend technical strategy and direction, lead technical investigations, define product requirements, and work closely with teams across Jabil. You will be joining an exciting fast paced team with entrepreneurial spirit, adapting and iterating quickly to meet evolving customer needs. Locations: Austin, TX/ San Jose, CA -working remotely from San Jose will be considered

What will you do? -

  • Demonstrate a level of expertise in System Architecture that matches or exceeds the expertise of customers

  • Operate within the ambiguous and mailable problem space of front-end design

  • Discuss Jabil design capabilities with customers and partners

  • Determine competencies needed during quoting

  • Advise on and discuss technology tradeoffs with customers, product planning and business development

  • Establish technical direction for customer originated projects and Jabil's own Wireline product offerings. Technical direction includes:

    • Alignment to product requirements documents.

    • Architectural tradeoffs on cost, complexity, and schedule.

    • Logical block diagrams, physical system partitioning.

    • Leveraging strategy and risk planning.

  • Collaborate with fellow system architects in the mechanical, thermal, firmware and software domains

  • Communicate status, direction, priorities and challenges in a high-level fashion with customers and executive management

  • Communicate technical direction to Jabil development teams through Jabil handoff documentation

  • Stay current on vendor technology capabilities in spaces such as Ethernet Switches, Memory, FPGAs, board materials, regulators, power supplies etc.

  • Remain ready to architect to the latest industry trends.

  • Deep dive into new open-ended areas requiring experienced engineering

  • Contribute to the improvement of our architecture methods and processes

  • Train, mentor, and coach new engineers

How will you get here? -

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, in Electrical Engineering or similar field is required

Experience:

  • Minimum of (10) plus years’ experience required

  • Ability to use industry standard ECAD tools to review layouts and schematics is required

  • 3-5 years minimum of customer external/internal interaction is required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Technical

  • Familiarity with the Broadcom, Marvell, and Microchip Ethernet switch and router architectures. Specifically, Broadcom DNX and XGS families preferred

  • Knowledge in optical transceivers including but not limited to 400GbE, 800GbE, PON OLT and PON ONT

  • Fluency in the mechanical, firmware and software domain

  • Specifically, an understanding of basics nomenclature, concepts and tools used by your architectural teammates.

  • Fluency in the thermal domain, specifically, an understanding of component cooling techniques, when components require cooling and what information your thermal engineering teammate needs during concept assessment

  • Ability to research and explore unfamiliar technologies and concepts with an eye towards feasibility.

  • Familiarity with x86 and ARM based processors and associated interfaces including I2C, PCIe, DDR4, NVMe and SATA.

  • Understanding of how to optimize performance, IO, thermals, real estate and/or power. Direct experience with at least some of the above is preferred.

  • Familiarity with PCB board materials and construction techniques. Specifically, an understanding of trade-offs and optimizations around insertion loss, via construction, stack-ups and sizing of power planes and shapes.

  • High-level understanding of voltage regulators related to types of VR architectures, trade-offs, efficiency, thermals, and critical VR components.

  • Ability to manipulate existing ECAD layouts and schematic databases for purposes of architectural planning and assessment preferred.

  • Experience coding, sizing, and planning FPGAs preferred but not required

Non-Technical:

  • Influence others and share best practices

  • Work as part of a global team

  • Assess a project and articulate risk while developing project milestones

  • Develop projects in a stage-gate process (PLCQ)

  • Mentoring and Lead of EE projects with multiple entry level/ mid-level engineers

  • Lead cross-functional and EE design reviews

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering preferred

  • An equivalent combination of education, training or experience will be considered
