ABOUT THIS ROLE

This opportunity is for a Software Development Manager who will manage and grow an engineering team for Audible’s Tools Engineering team. You will define, design and refine the tech that keeps us one step ahead of listeners. Anticipate. Innovate. Bring challenging ideas and we’ll support you with the latest tech, tools and systems that you need to succeed. You’ll drive the team forward, guiding them over every obstacle and leading the way to develop exciting, original and effective solutions.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Joining our team provides the unique challenge and opportunity to deliver software that improves developer efficiency for Audible engineers around the world. These systems are built using cutting edge technologies and products from AWS like Kinesis, S3, EMR, Elastic Search, Java, etc.

As a Software Development Manager, you will…

1. Work on internal tooling to enhance builder productivity by working on Automation tools, web applications, API development and more.
2. Collaborate to define core business objectives, ensuring efficient utilization of company resources for the best product, program, or project outcomes.
3. Manage multiple projects from concept to launch, working with cross-functional teams including technology, business, and operations, even when faced with conflicting priorities.
4. Contribute to the definition of technical architectures.
5. Demonstrate technical expertise, attention to detail, and proactivity in identifying and resolving issues.
6. Maintain consistent and transparent communication of project risks, progress, launches, and retrospectives to all stakeholders and teams.
7. Continuously strive to improve project execution performance, setting new benchmarks using objective metrics.
8. Actively mentor and develop junior team members, enhancing their skills, knowledge of our systems, and ability to achieve results.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience leading software development teams
- 5+ years experience of software development and deployment of distributed multi-tier applications
- 3+ years experience managing agile software projects across multiple and geographically distributed teams
- Business fluency in written and verbal English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience building internal tools where engineers are your customers
- Expertise in a variety of technologies and platforms such as Java/J2EE
- Experience implementing solutions leveraging AWS capabilities
- Experience leveraging machine learning models to deliver insights and enrich customer experiences
- Be able to thrive in an ambiguous environment where change is the only constant
- Analytical skills and an out-of-the-box thinker
- Self-starter with the ability to multi-task and work in a very fast paced environment
- Experience defining and delivering cross functional solutions that are innovative and extensible
