We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join us on a permanent basis. We need talented individuals to apply their data engineering and software development skills for solving data challenges to support a major UK Government programme from locations throughout the UK. You will work closely with delivery managers, fellow technical specialists, external partners and our customer’s teams to support the discovery, design, delivery and operation of a wide range of data solutions. Ad-hoc travel may be required to various customer and Leidos sites Your responsibilities will include: • Lead and co-ordinate teams, setting best practice and standards • Architect, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines and infrastructure across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) • Design and implementation of numerous complex data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems • Build, Maintain and Operate Data environments and data-streaming systems • Recognise and share opportunities to reuse existing data flows between teams • Being proactive in evaluating and developing tools and technologies in improving the data analytics platforms • Architect and/or evaluate data analytics solutions, apply knowledge of systems integration • Supporting the development of data migration, data integration and data processing processes • Supporting the creation of project plans, identification of risks, and generation of risk mitigation plans • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of data engineers • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering and cloud computing What are we looking for? • Proven leadership experience (5 years) in data engineering, with a focus on cloud technologies (AWS, Azure), and managing and mentoring technical teams • Experience of setting up and administering AWS or Azure data platforms and analytics services • Expertise in Pentaho BA for data integration, workflows and ETL processes • Proficiency in Power BI for creating insightful visualisations and reports • Solid programming skills in Python and Java, with a focus on data engineering and system integration • Experience of working in an agile software development environment • Experience estimating task effort and identifying dependencies • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
