About the Event AV and ICT Team The Event AV & IT Team is responsible for supporting the event side of the business. Event support is the provision and support to clients for AV and IT related equipment and services such as wired and wireless networks, screens, laptops and tablets as well as providing the backbone network for many audio-visual services and all Audio-Visual services offered by the centre. Job Purpose To undertake any work or projects as allocated by the Head of Audio Visual & Event IT or Senior AV Logistics Manager as part of a professional team in the provision of technical presentation services to events both within and outside of the Centre. The job holders impact on Business performance is through the efficient provision of technical services. This imparts particularly on levels of repeat business. Maintaining the AV Lighting infrastructure at the QEII Centre Key Tasks Rigging, operating and de-rigging lighting, audio visual, video sets and display equipment in accordance with safety regulations and procedures including assisting clients during events in the use of the above equipment and immediate problem solving. To develop the facilities of lighting and extend the boundaries achievable operations to assist the clients and the department. Assist the Sales department in the appropriate allocation and hire of lighting equipment. Supervisory responsibility for the AV Technician(s). To be responsible to the Head of Audio Visual & Event IT and Senior AV & IT Logistics Manager for the lighting inventory and the efficient storage of the equipment. To be responsible with the Senior AV & IT Logistics Technician for all lighting links in the building, including operational patching and maintenance. To carry out assessment and first line maintenance of lighting inventory and to identify those tasks that need to be done. To advise on development and change in new technology, appropriate purchases, client requests, innovation in sound equipment and systems. To communicate with personnel within the Centre and with Clients on a regular basis, advising clients on technical matters and directing other technicians on rigging, running and de-rigging events. The role requires constant and varied use of complex technical equipment. Required to make procedure decisions daily and on the spot judgements regarding Clients last-minute requests. Responsibility to train other technicians in lighting matters. All works must be carried out within the Centres official technical deadlines, most of which are predictable. This can mean a lot of irregular hours and overtime. To assist in the delivery of Event IT, which would include but not limited to, running network cables, basic network troubleshooting, VLan association, IP subnet address configuration, setting up printers and IP Phones. Shift work is required to cover events; the AV team usually cover the hours between 7am to 9pm Monday to Friday but support may fall outside of these hours. Weekends are available but are optional. Person Specification Essential Criteria Proficient with all AV equipment, e.g., Avolites, ETC, ARRI lighting or similar Proven ability to manage your own development and ensure your technical knowledge is maintained Ability to read and understand all technical manuals for equipment used lighting plans & scale drawings. Good numerical skills required for calculating ratings and loading of technical equipment and mains distribution channels Ability to work across teams to deliver client expectations in a timely and professional manner Able to develop lighting facilities, utilizing new technology and resources supplied, aspiring to achieve 100% accuracy in the post.
