We are seeking an experienced Test Analyst (Level 3) to support a large-scale legacy systems obsolescence programme. This position involves working on a series of critical system transitions, including migrations, decommissions, upgrades, and replacements of outdated infrastructure and applications. Key Responsibilities: Analyse technical and business requirements associated with system obsolescence and modernisation initiatives. Develop, maintain, and execute structured test cases and scenarios tailored to systems being phased out or replaced. Carry out a broad spectrum of testing, including functional, regression, integration, and system-level validation. Apply risk-based testing methods to ensure key legacy system replacements maintain business continuity. Verify the operational readiness and performance compliance of newly implemented or upgraded components. Identify, document, and track defects, collaborating closely with development and infrastructure teams to resolve issues effectively. Participate in quality reviews during the early stages of project lifecycle to assess requirements and design documents. Prepare appropriate test environments and test data sets aligned to legacy system transitions. Deliver structured reporting on testing progress, defect metrics, and risk assessments. Ensure test artefacts and outcomes align with broader programme governance and configuration management protocols. Work closely with engineers, internal stakeholders, and third parties to ensure critical components are thoroughly validated during transition. Provide support during User Acceptance Testing (UAT), particularly where core legacy functionalities are retained or replicated. Skills and Competencies: Strong understanding of test design approaches and defect lifecycle tools. Knowledge of system development and transition lifecycles, especially in legacy technology contexts. Ability to lead and manage test activities with a high degree of independence. Familiarity with test artefact control, versioning, and configuration management practices. Experience in identifying and managing risks during major system changes. Excellent communication skills for effective engagement with technical and non-technical teams. Proficient in using test management tools such as JIRA, ALM, or similar. Awareness of ITIL or service transition principles (beneficial). Essential Experience: Significant hands-on experience in testing roles linked to infrastructure changes, application upgrades, or technology refresh projects. Background in environments where mitigation of hardware or software obsolescence was a key focus. Experience conducting manual testing, with some exposure to or understanding of automation tools and frameworks (automation not essential). Prior work in regulated, safety-critical, or high-integrity sectors (e.g., transportation, public safety, defence, utilities) is highly valued. Qualifications: ISTQB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing (or equivalent certification). Additional training or certification aligned to SFIA skills framework is advantageous. Understanding of quality assurance, test assurance standards, or systems engineering principles.
