Senior Software Engineer

Role: Senior Software Engineer Location: Remote Day Rate: £600.00 - £700.00 (Outside IR35) Contract Duration: 6 Months We are currently recruiting for a Senior Software Engineer for a client in the e-commerce space, you will be responsible for the tech behind everything from scheduling and image handling to order fulfilment and digital delivery. You will initially need to be onsite for 3-4 days during the first week and from then on this is a remote working position for 3 or 4 days a week on a contract basis for 6 months. This is a hands-on role involving system maintenance, strategic modernisation, and long-term planning. You will be working with a PHP 8.1 codebase on AWS infrastructure (EC2, RDS, S3), supporting a large-scale, business-critical web admin system with a high number of database tables, image processing integrations, and advanced security and backup systems. Key Responsibilities: Own daily operations of a custom-built web platform Plan and implement modernisation efforts without disrupting live services Introduce automated testing and CI/CD workflows Improve system documentation and knowledge sharing Ensure secure and reliable data handling (GDPR-compliant) Key Skills: 5 years in software engineering, ideally with PHP and MySQL/MariaDB Strong AWS experience (EC2, RDS, S3) Comfortable working with legacy and bespoke systems Skilled in security, backup systems, and performance optimisation Self-driven, organised, and comfortable taking ownership Background in e-commerce or systems handling sensitive data Strong grasp of CI/CD, Git, and documentation processes
